About

Films are a great bit of escapism and foreign films provide the added opportunity to experience culture and diversity unlike our own. I’d like to think of them as cheap and quick vacations. Sadly, we can’t sample the local drink or cuisine, but when a film is done well, the experience is magical.

I’m not a film snob by any means. High concept movies are fine, but I tend to watch films that are more regional. Many times these films are popular in their domestic markets but would seldom see distribution in North America. Fortunately new channels like specialist DVD shops, film festivals, and of course the web has enabled many a film to be accessible.

"The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" is my first art-house and foreign film. I watched it on a first date. I hated it then and still do today.

This blog catalogues films as I watch them. I will also review documentaries and independent films. Some of them are new, while others are repeat viewings of favourites. Unfortunately, exotic locations and foreign cultures can’t save a bad movie. I’ll try to avoid those and reveal some of the film gems I’ve discovered.

Enjoy!
